How to track stock in a duka

Many dukas lose money because they do not know what is on the shelf. Tracking stock does not need a big system. It needs a few habits.

1. List every product once

Write down each product with its name, the unit you sell it in, what you paid and what you charge. Group similar items together.

2. Record every sale and every delivery

When you sell, take it off the stock. When goods arrive, add them. The habit matters more than the tool: a notebook works, and an app does the subtracting for you.

3. Set a reorder level

Pick a number for each product at which you reorder, for example 5 packets of sugar. When stock reaches it, order before you run out.

4. Count the shelf regularly

Once a week or month, count what is really there and compare it with your records. Differences point to theft, damage or mistakes.

Let an app do the arithmetic
